"WARNING: Dialogue in Progress"
Exclusive art exhibition with a series of paintings by two women of different generations.
May 26 - June 11, 2011
Artists Asa Kvissberg and Taylor Prendergast exhibit their latest series of paintings based on personal experience and perception as women of Swedish decent from different generations.
"Warning: Dialogue in Progress" is a two-person exhibition based on the complexity of human relationships and identity, the influence of today’s media, politics and contradictions of self-awareness. Kvissberg focuses on contour and the struggle between the human interior and exterior. Inspired by younger contemporaries, Prendergast strives for minimalism and a "less is more" approach where a simplification of pallet evokes purity. This series utilizes mixed media: oil, charcoal, ink, acrylic, architectural paper, transparencies, spray paint and silk screening to convey their work.
Asa Kvissberg resides in Sweden and has studied in England, Italy, and the U.S. Her art has been exhibited in Europe as well as North and Latin America. While her body of work is based in the complexity of human relationships, she is currently exploring the conflict of physical perfection and human identity. Taylor Prendergast was born in the U.S. of Swedish heritage and currently resides in New York City. Her inspiration for this series is based in politics, humor and personal struggle with a bit of edge and deconstruction.
