Born in Copenhagen, Denmark 1970, Giren holds a B.A. Honours degree in History of Art and Theory from the University of Leeds, England, and a Master (M.A.) honours degree in History of Sculpture from the Henry Moore Institute, and University of Leeds. Giren has worked as a curator and supervisor for Rudolph Tegner's Museum, and for Arken Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen. She has lived in Scandinavia, East Africa, England and Maui, Hawaii.
The technique used in her smaller paintings derives from an old European tradition of combining beeswax, linseed oil and pigment colors, applied directly by hand. This technique allows for a rough texture, reminiscent of a wall or sandy surface. Giren's formal visual language has roots in abstract expressionism, with a focus on the intuitive interpretation of a subject. Her colors are often inspired by the light and shades of Scandinavia, as well as the rich earth tones of Maui and East Africa.
